Workshops: Ireland Sept 5-10
I taught three back-to-back workshops at the Schoolhouse for Art in Enniskery, County Wicklow Ireland, a beautifully quaint town that is about 40 minutes south of Dublin. Two were taught from live models: a figure drawing workshop, and the other a portrait painting workshop. The third was a Plein Air landscape painting workshop taught onsite at The Powerscourt Gardens in Enniskerry, perhaps a mile or so from the Schoolhouse. The Schoolhouse is run by a fantastic team, led by Neil Condron. All in all, a fabulous time!
Workshop: Rome, June 25 - July 9th
I taught a 2 week workshop in Rome as part of the fabulous lineup of Rome Art Workshops in the Campo de Fiori. The course was titled : Achieving Harmony: Plein Air, Portrait and Figure Painting.
The curriculum encompassed the underlying techniques of Plein Air Landscape, Portraiture and Figure Drawing and Painting. In addition to a good bit of outdoor landscape instruction, I taught drawing and painting from the live model, using the basic principles found in my book, The Figurative Artists Handbook, covering both portrait drawing and painting fairly extensively. In each class, I did live demos and provided individual critiques.
Workshops: Ireland Oct 20-23
I taught two back-to-back workshops at the Schoolhouse for Art in Enniskery, County Wicklow Ireland, a coastal town is adjacent to Dublin. Both were taught from live models. One was a figure drawing workshop, and the other a portrait painting workshop. Both workshops were full and we all had a fantastic time. I love Ireland!
Ongoing Classes: The Teaching Studios of Art
In 2009, I founded an art school in Oyster Bay, NY devoted to teaching traditional techniques to artists of all ages and skill levels. I own and run the school, but it's hardly just about me. In the 9+ years we have been open, I've hired over 30 part-time faculty to teach classes and workshops. Our faculty are trained professionals who have achieved a level of excellence in their own practice that qualifies them to teach others. Our classes are small, our facilities are excellent, and students receive much personal attention. Our clients are our community, and we take their needs seriously. This client-centered approach has garnered us much press attention. In 2016, we were nominated for the "Best of Long Island" in the art school category.. I teach there on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, every week, except for when I'm getting ready for an exhibition and when I'm traveling.
